Meet the Team

James Coffman
Owner/operator of Alpha Officium
An active participant in several Living History-Reenacting groups since 1981. He is also a member of the SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism). Known in the SCA as Master Emmerich of Vakkerfjell, OL, OP.

With a degree in Anthropology, he is a history nerd, and enjoys all things that can make the life of Living History folks better. Primarily in the physical form of coins, letters, seals, games, and tools.

Emmerich is a dedicated Moneyer (coin-maker) for his Kingdom and her Crowned heads. He has taught his craft of Moneying throughout the SCA to a host of people in multiple Kingdoms. Many of them going forward to start Moneyer’s Guilds in their own lands and continue the craft by teaching it to others. James prides himself on being a descendant of an actual Minister of the Mint of York-under the reign of Henry VIII; Sir George Gale.

For fun, James likes to have the odd Guinness, while camping in the Redwoods. Followed by a BBQ with good friends and family. If he is not doing that, you will find him doing an average of 2-4 hours of research at his desk every day.

James hopes you will become a patron of Alpha Officium, and enjoy the little bits of art he and his helpers have created.

Rachel Coffman
Production Technician
Rachel was literally born into the SCA. Her first event occurred when she was two weeks old. She was introduced to the populace at a West/AnTir War that her father was autocrating.

Since then she has become an avid photographer; the natural world being her subject matter-especially insects and birds. Kayaking, camping, and sushi figure into her extended hobbies.

She has found her real calling in the shop though. Casting, Metalwork, and Quality Control take up much of her time. She is also exploring jewelry construction and design. Look for her work soon on Alpha Officium.

Merced and Donna
Production Technicians
Merced has always dabbled in various arts and was hooked on lampworked glass after taking a basic lampworking class during an SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism) Arts and Sciences event.  From there he has gone on to enjoy playing with glass and has had fun with marble, bead, and button making.  Currently, he continues working with glass, but has now branched into designing and cutting of medieval style coins within the SCA as a West Kingdom Moneyer.

Donna, similarly, has enjoyed a variety of arts and crafts and has found that she enjoys melting glass into new shapes and that fusing glass, a process in which glass pieces are melted together into a larger single piece) that coupled with glass slumping (forming glass into new shapes) has been able to find a segment of glass-working that she has come to enjoy very much. She currently assists Merced with striking coins and design ideas.
